  • THE EUROPEAN REFUGEE TRAIL
    THE EUROPEAN REFUGEE TRAIL
For 10 weeks I travelled along the refugee route from Lesvos to Berlin to educate myself about the current situation and to make a self-funded documentary film together with my good friend Jim Kroft. The pictures in this portfolio were taken on the island of Lesvos and in the camp of Idomeni at the Greek-Macedonian border where we spent most of our time, hardly able to detach ourselves from what we were witnessing and from the wonderful people we met along the way. OKTOBERFEST 2010
Despite (or because of) growing up in Munich - at least for the first 14 years of my life - I've never been a big enthusiast of the "Wiesn". So once in my life I wanted to explore this drunk turmoil with my camera, probably being the only sober person for a radius of 5 km. And, who would have thought, after two weeks of wandering amidst faltering footsteps which made me question my own state of sobriety, I was really thirsty...for a large, overpriced beer.
  • EXPLORING TIBET
    EXPLORING TIBET
For two weeks I explored this amazing country with its beautiful people. Despite the Chinese occupation and the subsequent cultural infringement they are still a people with a strong identity always ready to share a smile with the world. Hell, I want to go back there.
  • RACE DAY
    RACE DAY
I was asked to take pictures for MINI ITALIA at the MINI UNITED FESTIVAL in Marseille, France. I followed the German S.I.G.-Team to document the amount of work and passion that goes into running a race team and joined them a few weeks later at the Sachsenring in Germany for the ADAC-Masters which they were a part of as well. The pictures were taken on these two locations.

    BEIJING
When I went to to Beijing for the first time, I realised how many prejudices I had towards China. That was a hard realisation for a man who takes himself as being generally exempt from them. Yeah, right! The friendliness and inquisitiveness of the people surprised me and taught me once again, that no matter how many books you read or how many documentaries you watch, a culture different from your own cannot be known through the mitigation of others alone, but needs unbridled, emotional connections established by mutual interest and respect. Analyses of an abstract, technocratic and political body within the framework of geopolitical relations will always fall short.

  • CARS
    CARS
The idea for the CAR series was born in Buenos Aires. In every street you find cars long forgotten or never seen before in Europe. Standing there as silent witnesses to the changing tastes of time. I started taking pictures of them as a collector, cataloging their apparitions rather than interpreting them. To let them speak for themselves. This is an ongoing project, because, amongst other things, I am now a collector of cars. And this is my garage.

  • BUENOS AIRES
    BUENOS AIRES
It was a very spontaneous decision to go to Buenos Aires in the summer of 2012. The first thing that struck me were the walls that seemed to tell the many stories of this beautiful city. Graffiti of political messages or just aesthetic explosions of colour, chronicling strife as well as an abundant joy of life, serving as a collective memory for those alive and the generations to come. Art, I realised here more than ever before, is a pillar of democracy.
